It proposes a performance-installation where classical dance codes are deconstructed through the dissection of its three pillars: equilibrium, lightness and verticality, in an attempt to contrast, the dancer play with images and promote a critical reflection about the corporal postures required both in execution of moviments and by the laws of behaviours that society imposes us. The environment in Maria Augusta Bárbara is thought of as a compilation of information which takes place in the space where the body performs. The objects used compose the scene, more to a functional end and as imagery than just purely illustrative and allegorical. Therefore, point shoes, muzzle, tape, leash and rope compose this collection of objects that make explicit the relationship between body and ambiance. The performer, in direct relation to these objects, projects the discourses presented in the piece which refer to the “used, transformed and improved” (Foucault) at the same time as it generates strategies to help her to change her corporal state. Scene and movement impose conditions on the dancer’s motion, requiring of her a certain level of accord in order to make the performance possible. The movement of the dancer doesn’t allow the installation to be understood as a series of scenes, but as a collection of experiences/actions that makes itself explicit as she makes choices in this environment or which characterize the piece as an unfinished and continuous process, always subject to new connections. There are many ways of inducing trance states but, for me, dancing is not only one of the most pleasant ways but also one of the easiest. So in this workshop we will be learning simple techniques for attaining and deepening the trance state whilst dancing. The methods I use are derived from many sources: African shamans, contact improvisation, Sufi teachings, yoga, hypnosis and my own extensive experience of dancing. Many people who go dancing regularly use some of these techniques - so they may not be totally new but it helps to become more aware of, and to consciously develop and practice them. The workshop will be mainly practical, experiencing the effects of the techniques. There will also be some time to discuss our understanding of trance, what it is good for and how to fall into trance states not only through dance. They might have grown up in the cool realm of Northern Germany during the 80s and 90s, but “Die Vogelperspektive” have not rushed things. Instead they have soaked up influences from as many different musical styles as possible and have slowly but surely constructed their own confortable sonic nest from the many different strains of sound that have excited them. Four to the floor is their staple, but within those confines elements from all genres and subgenres have informed their musical make up, and it’s for that reason that these feathery friends are so hard to define but so easy to love. One thing that characterises everything they do, though, is a warm friendliness, a sexy soul and infectious groove that is as likely to come from an unknown classic of extraordinary beauty as it is a modern day gem full of surprise.
